A restored Maltese townhouse — self catering holiday in Bormla (Cospicua)
One of the few buildings in Bormla (Cospicua) to survive WWII bombing intact, Magdalena has been a family home, a football coaching room, a pasta shop, and a soap shop — all while keeping its original hand-hewn timber ceiling beams, encaustic tile floors, and limestone walls. Dick and Christine purchased it in 2024, restored it in 2025, and opened it as a self catering holiday home in Malta. This restored holiday home sits on the corner of St George Street and Triq Il-Gendus — explore the neighbourhood to see what surrounds it.
We wanted guests to arrive and feel the house had always been like this. As if the restoration was just the house settling back into what it should be.
Dick & Christine

Living area
Original encaustic cement tile floors in multiple historic patterns. Exposed limestone walls. Restored timber louvred shutters. Sofa bed in the living area.
The living area and bedroom open into one another beneath the original timber beams, divided only by an open screen — so light and air move through the whole house. It makes a warm, characterful space for a couple, or a small family with a child on the sofa-bed. Being open-plan, it suits people happy to share one connected space, rather than two parties each wanting a room of their own.
Bedroom
King-size bed with quality linen. Hand-hewn timber ceiling beams — original to the house, with rounded edges resting on stone slabs. Air conditioning. Open wardrobe. Smart lock entry via keypad. The quiet that only walls two feet thick can give.

Kitchen
Fully equipped for self catering. Induction hob, microwave, refrigerator, coffee machine, full cookware. Hand-built pine breakfast bar with two stools. Everything you need to cook properly — the Tuesday market is five minutes from the front door.
Bathroom
Walk-in rain shower. A second WC/bathroom with vessel sink. Hand-built pine shelf unit. Towels and toiletries provided.

Work & unwind
A quiet corner with a round table — for reading, working, or simply sitting. High-speed Wi-Fi throughout. A house that makes it easy to stay longer than you planned.
